Default waiting time

Hi everyone,

I applied for a partner visa sub class 309 in February 2011 and was told the usual 10-12 month waiting period would apply. I have done everything and the only thing my husband and I are waiting on is my husband's security check (done by ASIO?)..it has been over 8 months since this security check has started and i was told it would take a minimum of 6 months I recently called the immigration office in Dubai and a representative over the phone told me they have recieved my husband's security check and the case should be finalised in the next week or so. My question here is, would it be finalised in one week's time? what should i do if i dont hear back from my case officer in a weeks? i have a feeling they are going to take another one month or so dont know why maybe coz my 12 months of the application is coming up as well next month.I really hope they dont take this long..any advice would be great?? Thanks in advance.

From my personal experience, estimates are rarely accurate. If they said a week, it will be close, but don't depend on the week.

The Department are great at making statements about how long things take. It will happen when it happens. DON'T assume that it's taking longer because they found a problem. Sit back and wait. It's all anybody can do.

Oh thank you for that! I am sitting here with insomnia wondering why on earth they arent finalising my husbands case the way they said they would!!?? Is it worth calling/emailing again after a week or should I wait till my 12 months is up? Or should I just wait and do nothing??!! I never knew this process would be so stressful.

Thank for your advice guys.

I deal with dozens and dozens of partner cases every year. Never achieved anything by trying to "chase up" the Department. They'll act according to their own time, no matter what you do.

At least you know it's not just you! I had about 12 tourist visa applications held up because of the Christmas rush (ie. everyone wanting things done by Christmas, same as every other sector). One client was getting very worked-up, believing it MUST be a sign that it was all going to go wrong. Not sure it helped (this fellow was VERY emotional about it all), but I simply pointed out it was every single application that had been lodged around the same time that was held up.
