Default Foreign parent to a child born in Australia - Migration question

Hi all,

This is more a question of interest, rather than need.

I'm from Europe and have been living in Australia for a few years now.
I'm currently on a 457, but my wife (Australian) and I will apply for a spouse visa in the fullness of time.

We have a beautiful x month old daughter who was born in Australia and I was just wondering if partner migration is the only option available.

From what I've read it looks like it. Can any of the experts shed some light on it please? Are people aware of the potential risks to a functional family life if partner migration is solely dependent of funds?

Thanks in advance
