Just an 'ordinary' migrant
Did you know that Uruguayan-born Alberto Dominguez was the first Australian to die in the September 11 attacks?
When his family want to visit his shrine, they go to Sydney Airport. He worked for an airline, died on a plane and is now honoured by a plaque in the deep recesses of the domestic terminal.
The father of four emigrated from Uruguay to Australia in the 1970s and spent the last years of his life handling baggage marked "fragile".
At the time of his death, the media overlooked Dominguez' background, missing the amazing story of this speed cycling champion, who had also helped establish the Uruguayan Club, the Association of Spanish-Speaking Grandparents and the Latin American Relief Foundation in Australia.
Just an ‘ordinary’ migrant.
