Cancelling parent's VISA
Is there a way we can cancel my mother in law's PR?
I think it was parent contributory visa - my husband is the only child, we paid a fee and placed some money in long term deposit I think. She has already renewed PR once and is on her second 5 year term. We do not want her to live with us but can not get her to move out. Can we somehow cancel her PR? Does cancelling the sponsorship result in loss of PR? Thanks |

Your mother in law is now a permanent resident,so you are no longer sponsoring her as such and cannot withdraw any sponsorship. You may still have obligations under the assurance of Support you committed to. Sponsor obligations As a sponsor, you must give a written undertaking to provide support for your parent(s) for their first two years in Australia. This also applies to any family members who came with your parent to Australia. During this period, you must provide:support, accommodation, financial assistance. Assurance of support If you have also provided an accepted assurance of support for your parent, you are responsible for repaying to the Australian Government any social security payments they might have received during the 10-year period after their arrival in Australia or after they have been granted the visa in Australia, whichever applies. This also applies to any family members who came with your parent to Australia. Other than that, you are not obliged to let your mother-in-law live in your house. |
