Sheelagh, as a matter of interest have you had any responses?

Sheelagh Blanckenberg 17th October 2009 03:13 AM

Not one!

Which astounds me as I thought there would be a myriad of migrants or would-be migrants interested. From my experience in this business I would guess working in a regional area is what is putting people off!

Most migrants just want to head for one of the large cities (which I can understand because of support networks etc). Although if you are offered a job in a regional area compared to being unemployed in the city it surprises me that most would rather be unemployed in the city!

When I am in Banglaesh, most poeple I see, who want to migrate to Australia, prefer to go to Sydney because that is where all their friends or relatives are.

Hi Vitaliy

Welcome to the Migration Help forum.

Mechanics (diesel mechanics in particular) are usually highly sought after in Australia - why they are not on the Critical Skills Lists amazes me.

Please send a copy of your resume/CV which outlines not only your education and training but also a detailed break down of your employment history (my email address is below). Once I know a little more about your background I will be able to advise you further.

Kind regards
Sheelagh

Working in the non-for-profit sector

Hi Sheelagh, my name is David, I'm from Chile and now I'm in Australia studying English for the last 5 months. I'm Industrial Engineer with 7 years of previous work experience and I'm here with a student visa that expires in the middle of May.

I'm really interested in work in Australia before come back to my country and also I am making a big change in the direction of my career from the private sector to the non-for-profit sector, finding a more meaningful work, doing something that makes a difference and where I can use my skills to help others.

For this reason I would like to ask you if you have some information about non-for-profit organizations in Sydney which are seeking for overseas workers and where I could find a sponsorship for my work Visa.

Thank you in advance.

David

Hi David

Welcome to the forum and my apologies for taking so long to respond to you.

Off the top of my head, the only agencies I know of that operate in the not-for-profit area is Job Seeker and Kylie Hammond. Give them a call and have a chat about what you are looking to do. If they cannot help you directly I am sure they will be able to give you names of organisations who may be interested.

You should also look at the employment opportunities being advertised by Pathways Australia.

The only other advice I can offer you is to search the internet for non-profit organisations in Australia and approach each one directly.

If I think of anything else in the meantime I'll post it here.

Kind regards

Sheelagh
