Hello Im new to this forum, Im an Indonesian girl in relationship with an Australian man, we've been together for two years. he always came to spend his vacation here but few months ago he lost his job and he is in serious debt so he couldn't come to visit me anymore :( He is so frustrated with his condition and he told me it would be hard for us to get married because it will cost us a lot and he still cannot find work yet. Can anyone please tell me what to do? Is there any chance for us to get married? How much it will cost us to get all the paperwork done? Im willing to work in Australia to help our financial problem but i havent finish my study (1st year university - Faculty of Teacher Training & Education). Supposed if we get married, is he allowed to live in Indonesia? I always think living in my home country would be better and easier but he was an immigrant and got his Aust nationality because his family moved to Australia when he was 10 years old. Will Australian government let him move to Indonesia? but i doubt he want to given up his Aust nationality for Indonesian one.

Thank you all before

Please ask him to give me phone call or send an email and I will talk to him to evaluate his true position. On the face of the posted details, his financial status and employment status should not influence the assessment of genuine intention and commitment to get married and live as spouses. The Minister will most likely ask for acceptable assurance of support from suitable third parties like his parents, friends, siblings.

Visa application charges, medical, police clearance all can add up to just over AUD 2000. Since he is unemployed and probably has some free time at his disposal he can run around and organise the documents and prepare and submit the application himself with some pro bono advise from a community aid centre or friendly Registered Migration Agent. I will consider giving some free time on a limited scale depending on his circumstances and his place of residence.

Regarding his eligibility to take up residence in Indonesia I cannot advise you on this point. I know many Australians have taken up residence in Indonesia and some of them are running small businesses there. Ask one of them how to overcome the problem. It is very inexpensive a live a happy life under the coconut lined beaches or towns of Indonesia in a tropical climate. I am from Malaysia and I know how inexpensively one can get along.

best wishes
