Hi,
Can someone please help me. I am an Australian Citizen and married my boyfriend of 3 years in July 2009. I since moved to stay with him in Samoa last year in December 2009 but returned May 2010 after finding I was 3 months pregnant. We've decided that we would like to move back to Australia together, but I have no idea where to start and how long the process will be, as I want him to be here for the birth.
He did have a hiccup with the law a few years ago while staying in NZ which got him a night in jail. Will this have an effect on any visa application? I am very worried about this. Can someone please point me in the right direction of where to get started.
thank you

Your husband needs to apply for a partner visa with you as his sponsor.
The easy way is to contact an immigration agent though if you're considering to do it yourself, you will find information well laid out on the immigration department web site at http://www.immi.gov.au/migrants/partners/partner/309-100/
The applying for this visa section has a Checklist and together with the eligibility section and Booklet #1 you should get an idea of whether you feel you can tackle it yourself.
You'll need to commit some time to collating the various documents and evidenciary statements needed, but get cracking on that and there is a reasonable chance of hub getting the visa in time for the birth.

I don't think that a small misdemeanour will cause problems, but it is best to be upfront about it and explain the circumstances and declare any penalties.
If you are worried about doing the application yourself, contact a registered migration agent. You will find several very capable ones on this forum or check here : http://mia.org.au/

hello again, I've done some extensive reading regarding the whole process and have started gathering all the necessary documents. I have a few questions that I have not yet found answers to yet, please if anyone could advise on.
I tried sponsoring him back in 2008 to come to Australia on a Tourist Visa for a visit, but due to both our not reading the applications properly and lack of documentation it was denied. I cannot remember the exact dates though, would he be able to ask the Australian Office situated in Apia/ Samoa for them?
Also, Question 25 in Form 47SP asks for a residential address, in Samoa they don't have letter boxes, and few streets have names. Would the village name and location be enough?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

another question please,
since I am the Australian citizen and I'm going to be the sponsor, how much funds do I need to have in the bank and how much do I have to be making weekly in paid employment?
thanks again
