actually what asıo checks about the applicants??

only criminal records? because we provide criminal records to the consulate and i am really interested to know what are they looking for?

second question is,

being illegal status another country can affect prospective marriage visa application??

my case was:

i was in USA. 1998-2001 , i went there as a student and i had some financial problems , i overstayed my visa and, left the u.s.a later on..

i received my police clearance , it says i have no crime record at all.

can that be a rejection reason?

thanks.

If you weren't arrested or charged over your illegal status and the issue has been resolved, then I don't think that would be a problem.

I believe ASIO looks at political/terrorist/international and organized crime activity, not at simple police matters.

no i dont have anything like that , no charge no arrest at all. i left the u.s.a. on my own.. its been already 10 years i came back.

its clearly says on police clearance document that ''no arrest record''

i havent done anything wrong overthere except overstaying visa, thats all.

thanks for your answer.

Hi Nick
My partner is from North Africa and our spouse visa is currently at the security check stage.
Do you know how long this takes?
Thanks

I honestly can't tell. It really all depends how many cases they have and how easy it is to retrieve information from a particular country.
