Having to obtain medical checks is required for many Australian visa applications.

Until very recently, these checks were undertaken by Australian Government approved “panel doctors” based in the UK and Ireland.

The Department of Immigration (DIAC) are however, in the middle of rolling out a new system whereby medical checks and x-rays will only be undertaken in a number of specified medical centres. Information about the location of these centres has not yet been released. When they are further details will be posted on this forum.

In the meantime, visa applicants who are currently organising medical checks in the UK and Ireland should ensure the “panel doctor” they intend to use is still able to provide the necesary service and that the results of their medical checks will be valid.

MH is aware of many cases where appointments booked with panel doctors last year are now being cancelled, with respective doctors advising they are no longer on the DIAC approved list and thus unable to provide the service.
