I'm new to the site so be gentle, I'm from Northen Ireland and have been trying to secure a sponsor in Australia for over a year now. I got lucky with an engineering firm in a place called Picton, New South Wales but just when everything seemed to be going smoothly i got a call saying that because of a shortage in orders they could no longer offer me the job. Since then my wife and i have been phoning around different companys every week without any luck at all, so we dipped into our savings and we are flying out on the 22 december in the hope that i can secure a sponsorship. We are staying with relatives in Sydney and Brisbane so will be job hunting there but we would be happy to move to any part of oz.

If anyone on this site can point us in the right direction it would be much appreciated, or if you know of anyone willing to employ me as a welder then please reply to this thread.

Thanks Guys

Welcome to the Migration Help forum!!

Sorry to hear your potential job fell through.

Although an expensive option I know, you are doing the right thing by coming to Aus to look for prospective employment. Aussie employers, like employers anywhere, are reluctant to 'buy' sight unseen, even if they are in desparate need of staff.

I do not know much about the job market in the Eastern States but certainly if you were willing to try Western Australia welders are usually most sought after and I think you would have a good chance of finding a sponsor, especially now as our economy seems to be taking off again like the proverbial rocket!!

If you send me your resume (contact email below), I would be happy to pass it along to a recruitment friend of mine who may be able to help you.

I will also try and send you the names of various companies in WA who I know are currently actively looking for welders.

Please also have a look at the list of employment agencies we have included on this forum. It may be worthwhile contacting as many as you can to let them know you are a welder, looking for a sponsor and available for interviews in Australia from such and such a date to such and such a date.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Cheers
Sheelagh

PS both my parents were born in N Ireland so you're in good company!! :)
