Hi all,

I am looking to convert my 457 to PR as soon as possible. I have heard that i need to have been working for 2 years to eligable. For the first 6 months of working for my current employer i was on a Working Holiday Visa before they sponsored me for a 457. Does this count towards the 2 years?

Also, to complicate matters i changed position and job title after a little over a year of working for this employer while on the 457. The new position nomination was sent to DIAC and approved. My current 457 was updated rather than a new one being issued... Will this effect anything?

Really hoping someone can help!

Hi Jenk,

Few questions so that members can assist you further:

How long exactly have you ‘held’ this 457 visa?
What is your current occupation?
What is the proposed salary?
Will your employer give you a 3 year contract?
How many years experience do you have in your occupation?
Do you have a positive skill assessment for your occupation?

Cheers,

Hi Richard,

I've been on the 457 for about 17 months and was on the working holiday visa for 6 months prior in the same role (2 years with this employer almost up)

My nominated occupation before the change was 'Marketing Specialist' which i never felt was a good fit for what i was doing (Proposal Manager) but that's what the migration lawyer the firm were using suggested.

My new position is in Project Controls and due to the costing elements of the job and the industry i work in 'Construction Estimator' was seen as the best fit (close enough for a 457, probs not cose enough for a skills assessment)

My employer will give me a 3 year contract

I would be unlikely to pass a skills assessment as 'Construction Estimator' due to experience that would be seen as very relevant.
